I may be an outsider here, but there have been several things holding me back from using an iPhone as my daily, all but one of them have been added to the iPhone in the past few years, and the last is supposed to be added in 2024. So why don't I list what's been done that had previously held me back from an iPhone:
- Lack of wireless charging - addressed with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X
- Lack of widgets - addressed with iOS 14 on the home screen and iOS 16 on the lock screen
- Lack of always on display - addressed with the iPhone 14 Pro (but not available on the standard iPhone 15)
- Use of a proprietary charging port - addressed with the iPhone 15
So you might be looking at that and asking me what's wrong with the iPhone 15 Pro?
Well, it's nothing hardware related, so they could easily do this to all the current iPhones, and not just the iPhone 15 Pro.
And no, it's not installing apps from outside the official app store. That's...I don't even do that.
But it is something Android has that iPhones don't, yet.
In case you haven't figured it out yet, it's RCS.
You may know this already, but Apple has been heavily pressured to implement RCS on iPhones, with Google and Samsung being two examples. You may have seen the #GetTheMessage hashtag on social media, mostly on X/Twitter (whichever you want to call it). But it appears as though Apple has had enough, as they have told several reputable sources that they are bringing RCS to iPhone.
This has lead to Google replying with a positive note saying that they will work with Apple to bring RCS to the iPhone. Once they do, I might be convinced to switch to an iPhone after years of being on Android
